Whether you find yourself in a meeting with a laptop, tablet, or attending an online session at home, a spreadsheet offers a straightforward means of documenting ideas and action items. Particularly for virtual meetings, a Google Sheet can serve as an excellent platform for brainstorming ideas and reviewing action items. Try an action item template on this page to kickstart your tracking process promptly.

DESCRIPTION

Utilize this template during your meetings to record and monitor action items or employ it as a straightforward checklist. It features a checkbox column with a conditional formatting rule that marks completed actions with a strikethrough. Refer to articles on How to Use Conditional Formatting and Add Enhancements to Your To-Do Lists in Excel for additional insights into these techniques.

This spreadsheet offers a convenient method for tracking action items assigned to various members of your team or organization. Originally designed as a collaborative tool in Google Sheets, team members can bookmark the spreadsheet and make edits during meetings. The Google Sheets version incorporates the in-cell checkbox feature, while the Excel version employs a drop-down for selecting the checkmark.

This spreadsheet assists you in listing and prioritizing action items or ideas based on Value and Difficulty. It provides a valuable alternative to the conventional method of assigning a Priority level to a task. For further information on this ranking approach, refer to my PICK Chart page. This template utilizes a modified version of the PICK method, named the “JAM” method (Just-Do-It, Abandon, or Maybe).

The JAM ranking closely resembles the PICK ranking but employs a 3×3 matrix instead of 2×2, enabling the selection of a MEDIUM value and difficulty. The resulting numeric rank falls between 2-6, and a customized conditional formatting icon set is used to display the symbols.
